Lions Social Dinner 27th August 2026
Our August Lions Social dinner was held
on Thursday 27th August
at Black Head Surf Club.
The evening was attended by 26 Lions and guests.
The Membership Committee and Board felt that members would like a discussion and question time. What do Lions do? Why be a Lion? Privileges and responsibilities? A time to develop a sense of ‘Together we Can in Service’. Members were asked to bring questions along and sponsor Lions were encouraged to bring along our newer members.
The menu was a choice of Slow cooked beef cheeks in red wine gravy with smashed chat potatoes and mashie peas or Chicken Roast with chat Potatoes supplied by FoodWorks. Lovely desserts were supplied by Virginia Stewart and Lyn Power.
It was an appropriate time for our Zone Chair, Bob Welch, from Old Bar Lions to introduce himself and give a little of his background. He advised he was available to answer questions regarding Lions and also liaise directly with District 201n1. He also spoke of the upcoming District Convention at Club Taree being hosted by our Zone 6 Clubs being Forster Tuncurry, Harrington, Hallidays Point, Manning River, Old Bar and Taree Lions Clubs.
Later in the evening Bob joined a panel consisting of Tim Bishop (District Treasurer), Sharon Bishop (PDG and GMA Lead), Kevin Thornton (PDG and Chair Lions NSW-ACT Sight and Health Foundation) and myself. The panel answered questions from the floor about Lions formation and procedures to gain a better understanding of the Lions organisation.
Our Membership Chair Faye Murray provided a brief talk on doing what we do well or doing it better which was very encouraging. She also guided the discussion time with the panel.
We also celebrated a significant birthday of Clare Dunn which we celebrated with well wishes and a birthday cake. Clare still participates each month at our Car Boot Sale taking care of the sales at the BBQ.
