April Roundup
From President Vaughn
Lions Shed and Containers
Work still needs to be done in the Lions Shed and containers to sort and cull some of the gear that is in them. So, if you’re available, we’ll have another working bee on Friday and Saturday morning from 8:00am for a couple of hours. We’ll meet at the Containers in the Hallidays Point Caravan Park.
Car Boot Sale and Op Shop on Sunday 5th April:
A huge vote of thanks to all members who were able to assist with the car boot sale and Op Shop yesterday. On Saturday with the rain some thought was given to calling off the car boot sale but as it turned out Sunday's weather was great and there were many people about enjoying the sunshine. Both the car boot sale and Op Shop were kept very busy with approximately $1,000 made at the car boot sale BBQ and $1,100 taken at the Op Shop. Our next Car Boot Sale will be 3rd May.
Emergency Financial Support
I had a call from a lady currently living on a property at Rainbow Flat and she has chickens. She has been told she has to move but due to seasonal flock moult and loss of egg income she needs funding to feed the chickens before trying to relocate. Her initial reason for calling was to seek assistance from 'Need for Feed' but was unable to make contact. She needed short term financial assistance while still seeking help from 'Need for Feed'. I asked her what funding would get her out of trouble. She said $200 for feed. She supplied her account details and also CRT in Whitbread Street Taree in case it was easier to pay them directly.
I received a message later Tuesday afternoon hoping she could get the funds that afternoon as she would be out of feed the following day. I spoke to Noel and emailed the Board members seeking approval for $200 from our emergency fund.
We were able to secure a $200 voucher for her to use at Taree and Wingham Produce P/L.
ANZAC Day Service and Breakfast
Our next big event is the Anzac Day Service and Breakfast on Saturday 25th April. The Anzac committee have been meeting over the past few months and have organised the proceedings for the Dawn Service commencing at 6:00am with a time of reflection from 5:30am.
Our next dinner meeting will be Friday 24th April at the Surf Club which will be setting up for the Anzac breakfast. Time to be determined.
The stage set up on Friday afternoon will be made easier as we have had the two Nathan’s offer to pick up and set up the stage again. We’ll only need a couple of Lions to help. Details to follow.
Saturday morning, Anzac Day, will be an early start. Basically, we’ll need 3 teams.
Team 1 will be starting at 3:30am with setting up of the PA equipment.
Team 2 will be starting at 4:30am with putting out chairs and also erecting the gazebo.
Team 3 will be starting at 5:00am and will doing final set up for the breakfast in the club as well as assisting serving breakfast when the service has finished.
I’ll be calling for members’ assistance closer to the date. Please help if you’re available.
